At the beginning of October, the staff of the Institute of Applied Optics was able to warmly welcome their new institute director Prof. Dr. Ing. Stephan Reichelt symbolically by means of a key handover by Prof. Dr. Herkommer. Prof. Reichelt was appointed as the new director of the institute at the beginning of October 2021, as already reported. In the transitional phase after the resignation of the previous institute director Prof. Wolfgang Osten, Prof. Herkommer and Dr. Haist had temporarily managed the institute. Under the newly appointed management, the institute will, in addition to its existing area of expertise, also move into new and currently demanded research areas, including Digital Reality (AR, VR), digitization, MMI, AI and Industry 4.0. After the handover, Prof. Reichelt invited the staff to a festive reception with food and drinks, where the formal welcome was rounded off by introductory words and sociable exchanges.
