Medical Imaging

Besides the well-established techniques at the institute based on quantitative phase imaging, by which cells of transparent biological thin sections can be made visible, alternative approaches focused on supporting the surgeon during the operation are investigated.

This in particular relates to minimally invasive surgery, where the sense of touch and 3D vision are no longer available in order to enable the discrimination between different types of tissue and to support the instrument navigation.
